Introduction - 11th International Forum on Project Management in Detroit

Will the business world of 2025 require a dramatic shift in the field of Project Management to ensure business success? Will PM2025 be influenced significantly by other fields of business, like Neurobiology, social science ... ?

For decades, Detroit was and still is one of the focus point of the US and International Automotive Industry. This industry stands on the one hand for profound project management expertise, and for dynamic change, in both their business model and technology
strategy. Today, the automotive industry is a huge and complex conglomerate of many industries including IT, marketing, branding, environment and energy considerations, including the electric grid.

The Detroit area is the right place to discuss the future of project management; so IPMA's Research Management Board decided to host the 2011 USA Festival of Knowledge in Detroit, September 8, 2011. This event is organized by Dr. Thomas Baumann, a long-time automobile industry expert and member of the board of Trustees for the German Project Management Society (IPMA-Germany). It is sponsored by IPMA's Research Management Board and supported by asapm, IPMA-USA, the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management.

The theme for this September 8 event is "PM 2025—Trends and Expectations." The event will present and discuss results from the current PM research presented (from US and foreign organizations, enterprises and universities), by those who are heavily involved in Project Management and have clear expectations from PM in 2025. In parallel, IPMA will carry out hypothesis-based market research about this subject and inform the participants know about the results.

Topics on the agenda blend current Automobile Industry issues, together with the important role of projects and programs, both in the industry, and internationally. Even the name of the event is in discussion, as today's leading PM practitioners accept the value of Knowledge, but are embracing the additional needs for PM Competence and Performance. If you care about advancing project and program management in the USA, especially in the automotive industry and mark your calendar for Detroit, September 8.
